Mission Statement:

Located in Melbourne, Australia, WatchWinderWorks has been established to service the needs of the passionate mechanical watch collectors and watch lovers who want to maintain the settings of their multi complications automatic watches and so be able to wear them any time they desire without having to reset them each time(date, year, moon phase etc).

In doing so we wanted to offer the serious watch lover a choice in the selection of the type of winder required. To that end this site will strive to provide winders of a multitude of makes as well as offer unique one-off creations that will enhance the presence of the watch displayed and become a piece of winder-art in itself.

Why do we need a watch winder?

There have been considerable discussions and expositions in dedicated watch magazines as well as on Internet forums as to the benefits or otherwise of maintaining a mechanical wrist watch in continual motion.

In summary, it is not necessary to keep a mechanical watch going in order to prevent the deterioration of the lubricants. Present day technology of the materials used for this purpose prevents them from hardening or decomposing through lack of motion. In fact continuous "capillary lube" action may speed up decomposition of the oils! Also, wear and tear of all the moving parts of the watch will obviously suffer sooner than later as the watch mechanics are kept in motion. This may be the reason why manufacturers of watches never state to "keep your watch running at all times" in their user manual!!
As a matter of fact we have never seen any watches stored or displayed on watch winders for sale in a retail environment!

Our unashamed advice:

So, contrary to some opinions, mechanical watches need not be placed on a watch winder to prevent the lubricating oils from hardening/decomposing and therefore only place those watches on your winders that you would like to wear. You may decide to wear a different watch on a different day of the week or for different occasions or for reasons only known to you- these are the watches that should be placed on your watch winder.

If you are the lucky owner of a large collection of automatic time pieces, most of which you never wear but just display and admire, there is no need to purchase watch winders for all of these, only for the ones you like to wear regularly-

how's that for talking ourselves out of business?

But at least we're honest.
